The Mentor Program:
The Mentor Program provides an avenue to facilitate student's transition to college.
The mentoring program began in the Fall of 2000. The first 3 years the mentors consisted of faculty, administration, and staff. In addition, for the last 3 years other professionals and students were also mentors. In 2006 - 2007 there were 102 mentees matched up with 75 mentors.
The Part-Time Program:
The Part-Time Program is designed to enhance achievement for academically or economically disadvantaged individuals. In 1991 Bloomsburg University received a $34,000 grant that allowed up 50 students to be admitted as part-time degree-seeking students. The grant was funded through Act 101 and continues to be funded.
To be eligible for this program, an applicant must:
1. be a Pennsylvania resident with an adjusted gross income as determined by the Health and Human Services poverty guidelines, which considers family size and total income. Income is based on the previous year's earnings.
2. must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent;
3. must submit high school transcripts (SAT tests are not mandatory) for consideration.
The benefits of the Part-Time Program Include:
Guidance in the selection of courses, guidance in the selection of a program of study, guidance in registering for classes, guidance in applying for financial aid, advisement on incompletes, add/drops, withdrawals and other academic concerns, advisement concerning personal situations that could affect the student's performance at Bloomsburg University, monitoring of academic progress and tutoring.
The Summer Enrichment Program:
Students admitted to the university through the Act 101/EOP program must participate in placement testing and successfully complete a six-week, pre-college summer program. The faculty will assess each student's potential for success during each week of the summer program. Criteria include grades, attitudes and attendance. Attendance at the university in the fall is guaranteed only if these criteria are met.
