Welome to Act 101/Eop at
Bloomsburg University

Program Assistants

The purpose of the Program Assistant is to assist in facilitating new students' adjustment to college. Students selected as program assistants  a have thorough knowledge and understanding of the Act 101/EOP Program. In addition, they are familiar with the university  community and the town of Bloomsburg.  Most importantly, the program assistants are capable of "empathetic communication," and are sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.

The program assistants also assist staff and faculty of the Department of Developmental Instruction, reside in dormitories (with new students), participate in developmental classes and labs (as the need arises); participate in counseling (group sessions); and orientation activities, and interact with new students on an informal and social basis.  Program assistants are not professional
counselors, but perform a paraprofessional role.

Program assistants work under the supervision and guidance of the director, but are equally responsible  to all staff and faculty in the department. Program assistants are committed to working with incoming freshman during the summer program and continue for subsequent semesters.
