Fall 2008

We had two secondary education mathematics and biology student teachers co-supervised this semester.

Matthew Mills, secondary education mathematics, was co-supervised by Richard Beierschmitt, secondary education faculty member and John Polhill, mathematics faculty member.  Matthew’s cooperating teacher was Deb Shuman at Bloomsburg HS.

Danielle Olivieri, secondary education biology, was co-supervised by Richard Beierschmitt, secondary education faculty member and Cindy Surmacz, biology faculty member.  Danielle’s cooperating teacher was Angela Faranato at Mt. Carmel HS.

Dr. Shelley C. Randall is retiring, effective January 2, 2009. She is pleased to announce that Dr. Tom Starmack, Assistant Professor, Educational Studies and Secondary Education who teaches the secondary education mathematics methods course has agreed to coordinate the co-supervision of secondary education mathematics and science student teachers, beginning spring 2009.  She is confident that Tom will continue the spirit of cooperation between the two colleges as we provide accuracy of pedagogy and content knowledge in mathematics and science to our student teachers.  Originally funded by the National Science Foundation with two grants, the co-supervision process is institutionalized and funded by the College of Professional Studies.

She says that it has been an absolute pleasure working with dedicated faculty members in both colleges and she thanks you for your commitment to promoting excellence in mathematics and science.
