Co-supervision of Student Teachers: Year 2

This page describes the second year of the Co-Supervision Model being implemented at Bloomsburg University. Funds to support the second year effort were again obtained from a Level 2 grant award from the Statewide Collaborative. This follow-up grant was for $20,000.

The first year of the co-supervision model was also supported by a Level 2 award to Dr. Shelley Randall.

The second year of implementation of a Co-Supervision Model has resulted in 32 student teachers being co-visited by education and mathematics and science content faculty members during the 2002-03 academic year (10 in the fall 2002: 8 secondary and 2 elementary) and (22 in the spring 2003: 18 secondary and 4 elementary).

Additionally, all student teachers and many cooperating teachers were oriented to constructivist teaching practices and use of the Protocol for Classroom Observation (PCO) instrument.   Seven trainings were conducted for a variety of audiences, at BU and on-site in the schools for student teachers, cooperating teachers, and faculty members.

PCO training and Co-supervision in action

A Committee for Institutionalization of Co-Supervision has met a number of times, devised a framework for continuing the model, and has submitted a proposal to the University to make Co-Supervision a component of the educational experience for a significant number of mathematics and science secondary education majors.
