Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Center is to facilitate the involvement of faculty in a dialogue regarding the art and science of university teaching.

Programs and services are designed to encourage discussion and exchange of ideas, disseminate information, develop projects and conduct inquiries that enhance the knowledge and practice of university instruction, stimulate and enable the development of strategies and technologies, provide new faculty with information and support, respond to faculty needs and promote a commitment to teaching excellence.

Weekly Seminars The weekly seminars are scheduled for lunch hours throughout the year. The seminars are well received and provide an excellent opportunity to share ideas for teaching, completed research, or research in progress with the larger university community. All are welcome to join us. Contact the T.A.L.E. Director if you would like to present at one of the meetings. Click here for a detailed list of presentations.

Faculty Learning Community The TALE Center will announce Faculty Learning Communities (FLC) as they form.  An FLC is comprised of 8-10 faculty members who are engaged in a yearlong program with a curriculum about enhancing teaching and learning and with frequent activities that provide learning, development, and community.  It may be cohort-based or topic-based.

Colleague-Helping-ColleagueThis program is designed to link faculty based on topics, ideas, talents, and shared concerns. Is there something that you might like to do/learn/try/discover with another faculty member's help? Is there something that the T.A.L.E. Center could investigate for/with you to enhance your teaching and your students' learning?

Networking Information This program is designed to facilitate the sharing of discipline-specific information gathered from internet newsgroups. Faculty can join in this effort by sharing the useful information they find via newsgroups and websites with other faculty in the same or similar disciplines. Contact the T.A.L.E. Center if you would like to get "connected" to this network.

Teaching Awards December, May, and August graduating seniors are invited by campus email to submit online a nomination for the professor whom they consider the outstanding teacher they have had at Bloomsburg University.  The nomination form includes writing a narrative indicating why the professor is deserving of the award as it relates to his or her effectiveness as a teacher.  All nominations are kept confidential.  The nominations from the December graduates are saved and combined with the nominations from the May and August graduates.  All of the nominations are blind-reviewed by a committee of four faculty members.  The selected two professors will learn of the award selection by the end of April and receive a plaque and a monetary award, funded by the BU Foundation at the May commencement ceremonies.  The monetary award is funded by the BU Foundation.
