Spring Semester

2012 Awards Presentation:
The Institute for Culture and Society will hold the 2012 Awards Presentations on Thursday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. in 1316 MCHS. Betina Entzminger will receive the Outstanding Scholarship Award, Steven Ekema Aqbaw, the Lifetime Achievement Award and Jason Godeke the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship award.
The Institute for Culture and Society and the Green Campus Initiative are sponsoring a series of lectures and documentaries from March 20th - 29th on the impacts of drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale. The Institute for Culture and Society invites proposals for the ICS 2012‐2013 Lecture Series. Faculty members from across the university are invited to submit proposals for a lecture on their current scholarly work and its bearing upon our culture and society. Please submit your lecture proposal to Dr. Francis Christina by March 26.

The Institute for Culture and Society will host its Fall Reception on December 1 (Thursday), from 5-7:30pm in the Curt English Room of the Alumni House.
Presentation by Dr. Cristina Mathews on her work and experience as a Fellowship Award recipient attending the Vermont Studio Residency Program.

Successful Aging Conference on in April, 2011. This gathering will bring together many individuals, groups, and agencies from the university and the surrounding communities.

The Institute for Culture and Society welcomes proposals from faculty, staff, and students from across the university as we prepare for the Successful Age-ing Conference to be held the week of April 4 - 8, 2011, in Kehr Union. For details, click HERE
The Institute for Culture and Society will host its Fall Reception on December 9 (Thursday), from 4-7pm in the Curt English Room of the Alumni House. In the reception, Dr. Cristina Mathews, an associate professor of English, will be named the recipient of 2010 Vermont Studio Residency Fellowship.
Presentation by Dr. Claire Lawrence on her work and experience as a Fellowship Award recipient attending the Vermont Studio Residency Program.

Previous Institute Special Programs
2009-2010, Culture and the Environment. Taking the lead on this initiative, the Institute sponsored lectures throughout the academic year bringing many perspectives together, including art, sociology, and history.
2008-2009, BU Immigration Forum: Immigration Matters. The Institute joined with several other organizations to offer several events throughout the academic year.
2006, The Future of Academic Freedom. The Institute sponsored a debate featuring author David Horowitz and Bloomsburg University Professor Kurt Smith marked the highlight of several programs scheduled around Constitution Day.
2003, Eye Witness to Baghdad. The Institute sponsored a lecture by Samer Shehata, Assistant Professor, Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown University.
