Wired Cardioid Micrphones
Basic Information
Wired cardioid hand held microphone. These are dynamic microphones and DO NOT require phantom power.
Stored in the Tech storage/office and ALSO in the Ballroom Storage Cabinet.
Setup Considerations
- If there is a podium requested and set in the room, set the mic on a gooseneck mic mount on the podium.
- If only a microphone is requested, then place the microphone on a mic stand when setting an event. Do not set only a microphone in a room without it being held by a podium or a microphone.
- Use the appropriate size microphone clip to hold a microphone securely. Wireless microphone clips are too large to hold normal sized microphones and should only be used for wireless microphones. Normal microphone clips are too small to hold wireless microphones and should only be used for normal sized microphones.
Figure 1 shows a correct microphone setup on a podium. The mic is held by the mic clip, and the mic clip is held by the gooseneck extension. See also microphone quick clips. In this setup, the mic is at a proper level to pick up speech from the person speaking.
Figure 2 shows an INCORRECT microphone setup on a podium. The mic was simply placed on the podium without a mic clip. DO NOT EVER DO THIS! This setup shows lack of follow-thru and detail. The mic cannot be attached to the gooseneck without the mic clip. See also microphone quick clips. The person speaking has to awkwardly hold the mic which is inconvenient for the speaker and looks sloppy from a presentation perspective.
Figure 3 shows an INCORRECT microphone setup on a podium. DO NOT EVER DO THIS! The mic is held by the mic clip, and the mic clip is connected directly to the podium - there is no gooseneck extension. See also microphone quick clips. In this setup, the mic is pointing straight up toward the ceiling (and ceiling speakers, which can cause feedback). This setup renders the mic virtually useless since it is not properly aligned to pick up speech from the person speaking.
Troubleshooting
Make sure the mic input's volume level at the sound system is set to at least 50-75%. Adjust the mic's volume level to a comfortable listening level.
